Dr. Florian Herrmann

Dr. Florian Herrmann is Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, State Minister for Federal and Media Affairs. Born December 7, 1971 in Kelheim, Roman-Catholic, married.

The Minister of State Dr. Florian Herrmann has been a member of the Bavarian
government since March 21, 2018, initially as Head of the Bavarian State
Chancellery and Minister of State for Federal Affairs. On November 12, 2018, he was
reappointed Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery and State Minister for Federal
and European Affairs and Media in the cabinet of Minister-President Dr. Markus
Sцder. In this capacity, he represents, inter alia, the Bavarian government in the
Bundesrat (Federal Council). In the summer of 2020, he was appointed as Covid
coordinator of the Bavarian government. On January 11, 2021, the responsibility for
European and International Affairs passed to State Minister Melanie Huml.

Upon graduation from Dom-Gymnasium in Freising, he began studying law and
completed his studies with honors in Munich. The Master of Laws program (LL.M.)
took him to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (USA) as well as to
Frankfurt am Main, where he submitted his doctoral dissertation on a topic of the
history of international law. Dr. Florian Herrmann then worked as a lawyer in a law
firm founded by him specializing in commercial law (his admission to the bar has
been suspended since his appointment as Minister of State).

Since 2008, Minister Herrmann has been a member of the Bavarian Landtag (State
Parliament) for the district of Freising. Before his first appointment to the cabinet of Minister-President Dr. Markus Sцder, he acted as chairperson of the Committee for
Municipal Affairs, Domestic Security and Sports as well as spokesperson for
domestic affairs of the CSU parliamentary group. He further chaired several of the
State Parliament’s committees of inquiry.

State Minister Dr. Florian Herrmann has been a member of the CSU Upper Bavaria
District Executive Board since 2009 and of the CSU Party Executive since 2013. At
his place of residence in Freising, he has been an elected district councillor since
2002 and district chairperson of the CSU since 2007.

Among other functions, Dr. Florian Herrmann volunteers as vice-president (from 2013 to 2020 president) of the “Landesverkehrswacht Bayern e.V.” (regional road safety
association).
